This is a recipe from an old cookbook that I purchased
from an antiques store. It is sweet and delicious. Serve
it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Quick and easy.
Ingredients:
4 cups chopped apples (I used Gala)
Topping and for bottom layer:
1 cup all purpose four
3/4 cup oatmeal
1 cup brown sugar (not packed)
1/2 cup melted butter
1 tsp. cinnamon
Filling:
1 cup sugar
2 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 cup water
1tsp. vanilla
Directions:
Spray with PAM a 8 or 9 inch baking dish.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Mix topping ingredients until crumbly.
Carefully press 1/2 into the bottom of the baking dish.
Cover with the apples.
In a saucepan, cook the filling ingredients until
the sauce becomes thick and clear, about 6-7 minutes.
Pour over apples.
Cover with remaining crumbs.
Bake for one hour.
Let cool for about 1/2 hour.
Refrigerate leftovers but put into another dish and cover,
as the bootom layer may harden.
